The Sea-Dog Stainless Steel Chain Gripper Plate is a marine hardware solution engineered to stabilize anchor chains under the extreme forces generated during heavy seas and adverse anchoring conditions. Constructed from investment-cast 316 stainless steel, this gripper plate reduces stress on your windlass system when anchored by distributing load across port and starboard bridle points, protecting expensive deck equipment from accelerated wear and potential failure.
The plate accommodates anchor chain sizes of 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", and 1/2", covering the full range of recreational and commercial boating applications. Two holes in the gripper plate are configured for bridle attachment using bow shackles (sold separately), allowing you to run stabilizing lines to cleats on both sides of the bow. Installation requires two right-hand fasteners (not included), providing a straightforward, permanent mounting solution. The 316 stainless steel construction resists corrosion in salt water environments where standard steel would rapidly degrade, extending the service life of the gripper plate and maintaining functionality across multiple seasons.
This hardware is essential for serious cruisers, offshore anglers, and vessel operators who anchor in variable conditions or remain on station in rough seas for extended periods. Weekend boaters anchoring in protected waters may not require this level of stabilization, but commercial fishing operations, liveaboard cruisers, and boats operating in exposed anchorages benefit significantly from the load distribution and windlass protection the gripper plate provides. Sea-Dog's marine hardware line has established itself as a reliable source of deck fittings and anchoring solutions trusted throughout the recreational and working boating community.
