The Geissele AR-10 7.62 Reaction Rod is a purpose-built armorer's tool designed to simplify barrel installation, removal, and component service on AR-10 and SR-25 platform rifles. Unlike traditional methods that risk damage to the upper receiver or inconsistent torque application, this reaction rod secures the barrel extension via integral splines while the upper receiver slides onto the rod, allowing all fastening torque to transfer directly into the barrel nut—not into the receiver itself.
The reaction rod measures 12.8 inches in length and weighs 3.56 pounds, engineered to mount horizontally or vertically in a standard bench vise. The spline geometry is matched to the AR-10 barrel extension profile, ensuring zero runout and preventing the extension from rotating during critical fastening operations. This design eliminates cross-threading risks and allows controlled, repeatable torque values for flash hiders, gas blocks, handguards, and barrel nuts on 7.62 NATO platform builds. The robust construction handles full armorer-level service cycles without wear or deflection.
This tool is essential for gunsmiths, armorers, and serious builders who need precision and repeatability when servicing AR-10 rifles in .308 Winchester, 7.62 NATO, or other common AR-10 calibers. Field-stripping upper receivers, swapping barrels for different cartridges or barrel profiles, or replacing gas system components all require stable barrel extension support—this reaction rod provides it. The investment pays dividends across multiple builds and prevents the receiver damage that can result from improper vise clamping or hand-wrenching techniques.
