The LBE AR15/M16 H2 Heavy Carbine Buffer is a precision recoil management component designed to optimize bolt carrier group cycling across a wide range of AR platform configurations. This H2-weight buffer from LBE Unlimited addresses the critical challenge of overgassing—when a rifle's gas system delivers more energy to the bolt carrier than necessary for reliable function. By slowing down the BCG during the rearward stroke, the H2 buffer reduces wear on internal components, improves accuracy through reduced recoil impulse transmission, and extends the service life of your lower receiver and buffer tube assembly.
This carbine buffer utilizes a hybrid weight configuration: two tungsten weights paired with one steel weight. Tungsten's superior density (compared to steel) allows the same overall mass in a more compact form factor, reducing felt recoil while maintaining proper carrier lock-time without sacrificing reliability. The correct buffer weight depends on barrel length, gas port size, gas system type (carbine, mid-length, rifle), ammunition caliber, and bullet weight. The H2 is tuned for rifles running standard or slightly heavy loadings through carbine-length gas systems. The buffer is engineered exclusively for use with a carbine buffer tube (mil-spec 1.125-inch diameter), and LBE manufactures this component domestically, ensuring quality control and supporting U.S. production standards.
Operators, armorers, and competitive shooters select this H2 buffer when gas system tuning has been identified as the limiting factor in reliability or shot group consistency. Users running suppressed carbines, short-barrel rifles, or rifles chambered in rifle-caliber cartridges through carbine gas systems often benefit from heavier buffering. The H2 sits between the lighter H1 (for lighter loads or rifle-length systems) and the H3 (for severely overgassed or magnum-caliber platforms), making it the common middle ground for duty rifles and precision builds requiring fine-tuned carrier dynamics.
