The Spike's Tactical ST-T1 Tungsten Heavy Buffer is a purpose-built recoil management component engineered to reduce bolt carrier velocity and impulse transmission in AR-platform carbines and rifles. Unlike standard mil-spec buffers, the ST-T1 uses a crushed tungsten composite bumper paired with a solid aluminum body, delivering measurably softer cycling, reduced noise signature, and minimal maintenance requirements over extended service life.
Weighing 3 ounces, the ST-T1 is significantly heavier than standard 1.1-ounce carbine buffers, which slows bolt carrier acceleration and reduces peak impact forces on the buffer tube and receiver extension. The crushed tungsten material absorbs more energy per unit of mass than traditional rubber or polymer bumpers, translating to quieter operation, smoother felt recoil, and extended wear on the buffer tube. Black anodized aluminum construction ensures corrosion resistance and a clean appearance. The buffer is 100% maintenance-free—no spring, no springs to replace, no disassembly required.
This buffer is ideal for operators running suppressed or short-stroke configurations where standard buffers transmit excessive recoil impulse to the shooter. It performs equally well on non-suppressed carbines where noise reduction and recoil control enhance accuracy during sustained fire. The heavier weight is particularly valuable during precision shooting, intermediate-distance engagement, or training scenarios where felt recoil management directly impacts sight picture recovery and follow-up shot speed. Runs on standard mil-spec buffer tubes found on nearly all direct-impingement AR variants.
