The UMI Performance 64-67 GM A-Body Rear Shock Tower Brace is a bolt-on structural reinforcement designed to eliminate chassis flex and improve handling dynamics on classic muscle cars. This steel brace connects the rear shock towers, significantly reducing the lateral movement that compromises cornering stability and suspension performance on vehicles with unibody construction.
Manufactured from steel and finished in red powder coat, the brace measures 36.6 inches in span and weighs 5.6 lbs. The powder coat finish provides corrosion resistance while the bolt-on design requires no welding, allowing installation without permanent frame modification. Rear shock tower braces work by triangulating the structure between the two shock mounting points, effectively converting independent flex paths into a unified torsional member. This reduces compliance in the suspension geometry, which translates to more predictable weight transfer during hard acceleration and cornering, sharper turn-in response, and reduced tire scrub.
This brace is engineered for 1964–1967 Chevrolet A-Body platforms including the Chevelle, Malibu, and El Camino. Builders focused on chassis stiffness improvements—whether for street performance, autocross, or track duty—will find this component essential for maximizing the effectiveness of suspension upgrades. Without structural support at the rear towers, spring rates and damper valving cannot fully transfer suspension forces to the chassis, limiting the benefits of higher-end suspension geometry work. The UMI Performance piece addresses this foundation-level need.
