The Prothane 67-81 Camaro Shackle Bushing Kit is a polyurethane suspension upgrade designed for first and second-generation F-Body and X-Body GM vehicles, including the classic Camaro, Firebird, and Nova platforms. This complete kit replaces the OEM rubber shackle bushings on multi-leaf spring rear suspensions with performance-grade polyurethane components, restoring suspension geometry and eliminating the compliance that develops in worn factory rubber over decades of use.
Shackle bushings are the pivot points where the rear leaf spring attaches to the chassis. Factory rubber bushings compress and degrade from heat, ozone, UV exposure, and constant articulation, allowing excessive spring movement and rear axle shift under acceleration or braking. Prothane's polyurethane formulation resists this degradation while maintaining compliance for drivability. The kit includes all necessary hardware—steel fasteners with cadmium plating for corrosion resistance—ensuring a complete, ready-to-install package. The cadmium-plated hardware is critical for classic vehicles stored outdoors or subjected to road salt, as it provides superior protection compared to standard zinc-plated fasteners.
This bushing kit is essential for Camaro, Firebird, and Nova owners performing frame-off restoration, upgrading aging suspension geometry, or building street or competition-oriented vehicles. Restoring proper shackle alignment reduces rear axle tramp, improves brake bias consistency, and tightens the overall rear suspension response. The kit fits 1967–1981 multi-leaf spring F-Body and X-Body applications, making it a core component for chassis restoration work on second-generation Camaros (1970–1981) and early Nova platforms. Installation requires standard hand tools and basic mechanical skill, though professional installation is recommended for alignment verification.
