The RJS Safety Fuel Cell Foam Alcohol/Methanol is an anti-slosh safety insert engineered specifically for racing fuel cells running methanol or alcohol-blend fuels. This American-made foam block keeps fuel from shifting during hard acceleration, braking, and cornering, which helps maintain consistent fuel pickup and prevents dangerous weight transfer. At 8 inches by 8 inches by 4 inches, each block fits directly into RJS fuel cells and works with most other fuel cell brands on the market. Racers running circle track, drag, or off-road applications will find this foam essential for fuel system stability.
Unlike standard polyurethane foams that break down rapidly in alcohol-based fuels, this RJS foam uses a scientifically constructed mesh material formulated to resist chemical degradation from methanol and alcohol additives. The black foam mesh can be cut with a utility knife and stacked to fill fuel cells ranging from 8 to 32 gallons, giving builders flexibility across different tank configurations. Weighing just 0.2 pounds per block, multiple inserts add minimal weight to your fuel system while providing critical slosh prevention. The open-cell structure allows fuel to flow freely while dampening movement, so your fuel pump maintains consistent pickup even under extreme G-forces.
This foam insert belongs in any competition fuel cell where methanol or alcohol fuels are used. Stock car racers, sprint car teams, and off-road builders all benefit from reduced fuel starvation during aggressive driving. For those building out a dedicated race vehicle, we carry a full selection of parts and accessories to complete your project. Pair this foam with proper fuel cell mounting hardware and a quality fuel pickup for a complete slosh-free fuel delivery system.
This particular RJS foam is formulated specifically for methanol and alcohol-based fuels. For gasoline or E85 applications, RJS makes separate foam formulations designed to resist those fuel chemistries. Using the wrong foam type will result in premature breakdown and contamination of your fuel system.
The number of blocks depends on your fuel cell size and how much slosh prevention you need. Each block measures 8x8x4 inches. For an 8-gallon cell, one or two blocks may suffice. Larger 22 or 32-gallon cells typically require multiple blocks cut and stacked to fill the tank properly.
Yes. RJS designed this foam to be cut with a standard utility knife or scissors. You can trim blocks to fit around baffles, fuel pickups, and sending units. Stack multiple trimmed pieces to fill the entire cell cavity while maintaining fuel flow paths.
Inspect your foam at the start of each racing season or after extended storage. Look for signs of breakdown such as crumbling, discoloration, or reduced cell structure. Even chemically resistant foam degrades over time, and contaminated foam can clog filters and fuel pumps.
