The PENNGRADE MOTOR OIL Engine Assembly Lube (BPO71055) is a 6 oz high-viscosity lubricant built for engine builders and mechanics prepping freshly machined parts before that first fire-up. During assembly, solvents strip every running surface clean, and until oil pressure builds, bearings, cam lobes, lifters, and piston rings run dry. This lubricant coats those green moving surfaces and stays put, carrying load through the vulnerable startup window when conventional oil hasn't yet reached the top end. If you're building a stroker, rebuilding a factory long-block, or restoring an old engine, it belongs on the bench alongside your other assembly fluids.
PennGrade formulates this lube on Pennsylvania Grade base oil, the same stock that built the Brad Penn reputation before D-A Lubricant Company took the brand over in 2015. The high-viscosity conventional formulation gives it tenacious clingability, so it stays on cam lobes and bearing shells instead of draining off the moment you set a part down. Anti-wear chemistry comes from an enhanced zinc and phosphorous (ZDDP) package, with zinc alkyl dithiophosphate running 1-2%, plus tetrapropenylphenol and diphenylamine to guard against oxidation. Rust inhibitors protect components that sit assembled before startup. The result is higher load carrying ability and a durable surface film on highly stressed internals. For dedicated cam work, we also stock a cam and lifter prelube.
Reach for this lube during final assembly on bearings, cam and lifter contact faces, timing gears, valvetrain, and piston skirts. Brush or wipe a film onto each surface as it goes together, then rely on it to hold protection until the oil pump primes and pressure stabilizes. The 6 oz bottle covers a typical single-engine build with margin to spare, and it fits right into a rebuild kit. Builders working larger jobs or production benches may want the 16 oz size or a case pack. Pair it with our engine greases and gasket sealers to finish the build.
It coats freshly machined engine parts during reassembly, so bearings, cam lobes, lifters, and rings have protection before oil pressure builds. Solvents strip parts clean during a rebuild, leaving them dry. This high-viscosity lube clings to those surfaces and carries load through the first startup until the oil pump primes.
Yes. This lube uses an enhanced zinc and phosphorous (ZDDP) anti-wear package, with zinc alkyl dithiophosphate at 1-2%, plus tetrapropenylphenol and diphenylamine additives. The increased zinc chemistry matters for flat-tappet cams and other highly stressed valvetrain components during break-in.
One 6 oz bottle covers a typical single-engine build with room to spare, applied as a film to bearings, cam and lifter faces, timing gears, and piston skirts. Builders handling multiple engines or running a production bench may prefer the 16 oz bottle or a case pack.
Yes. The Brad Penn line became part of the PennGrade 1 brand after D-A Lubricant Company acquired it in 2015. It still uses Pennsylvania Grade base oil, the stock that built the original Brad Penn reputation for clingability and film strength.
