Description

This Talley scope mount is a one-piece base and ring system built for the Large Ring Mauser 98 and the Mauser M12 with .500 inch rear hole spacing. It carries a 1-inch ring diameter and a low 0.40 inch height measured from the receiver top to the bottom of the ring cradle, which keeps a sporter-weight scope tucked close to the bore. Shooters rebarreling or restoring a sporterized 98 reach for this style of mount because it removes the alignment guesswork that comes with separate scope bases and rings. Note that it does not fit military receivers with the stripper clip hump.

Talley machines the 930709 from aircraft-grade aluminum, 6000 or 7000 series alloy, then finishes it with a hard-coat anodized coating for corrosion resistance. The unitized design integrates the base and ring into a single piece, so there is nothing to lap and no stacked tolerances between a separate base and ring to fight. Talley specifies CNC machining to tight production tolerances, and the aluminum construction runs lighter than steel mounts in the same footprint without giving up holding strength. The mount ships as a pair, front and rear, with 6-48 mounting screws and a T-15 wrench included. The 0.40 inch low height is the shortest practical setup for small-objective hunting scopes on a Mauser action.

A hunter building a lightweight Mauser sporter for whitetail or plains game gets the most from this mount, since the low cradle pairs well with a compact 1-inch variable and a low comb. Because it bolts directly to a drilled and tapped Large Ring 98 or M12 receiver, setup is a matter of torquing the 6-48 screws and seating the scope. If you need a taller ring height for a larger objective bell, or a 30mm tube, compare it against the rest of our scope mounts and the matching rifle scopes we stock.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this mount fit a military Mauser 98 with the stripper clip hump?

No. This Talley mount is built for Large Ring Mauser 98 and Mauser M12 receivers with .500 inch rear hole spacing, and it does not clear the stripper clip charger hump found on unaltered military receivers. It is intended for sporterized or commercial actions that have been drilled and tapped for scope mounting.

What scope tube diameter does the 930709 accept?

It is machined for 1-inch scope tubes. If your optic uses a 30mm or 34mm main tube, you will need a different mount configured for that diameter, which you can find among our scope mounts.

Do I need to lap these rings before mounting a scope?

No. The one-piece unitized design integrates the base and ring, so the ring alignment is held to Talley's machined tolerances out of the box. There is no separate base-to-ring interface to stack tolerances or require lapping.

What hardware comes with the mount?

Each pair ships with 6-48 mounting screws and a T-15 wrench, so you have what you need to attach it to a drilled and tapped Large Ring 98 or M12 receiver and seat the scope.

How tall is the low height option?

The low version measures 0.40 inches from the receiver top to the bottom of the ring cradle. That is the shortest practical setup for small-objective 1-inch hunting scopes on a Mauser action.
